"It’s Not the Pastor—It’s the Posture of the Heart"
Many who drift from the church are quick to point fingers: “The pastor isn’t preaching the Word,” they say. “I’m just not being fed.” While there are times when leaders do fall short, more often, the real issue isn’t the pulpit—it’s the posture of the heart.
James 1:22 reminds us: “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
It’s easy to claim spiritual hunger while rejecting the very discipline that produces growth: applying the Word daily, seeking God personally, and staying rooted in the body of Christ.
Too often, people want a sermon that entertains, inspires, or fits their lifestyle. But when the Word confronts, corrects, or convicts, they claim it’s not relevant or powerful enough—when in reality, it’s cutting too close to their comfort. The problem isn’t always a lack of truth being preached, but a lack of truth being received and lived.
Church attendance isn’t the measure of faith—but neglecting it often reveals a heart drifting from God. It’s not just about being in a building; it’s about staying in the presence, in the Word, and in obedience.
So before blaming the preacher, we must ask ourselves: Am I truly listening? Am I walking in the Word I already know?
